Micra damp HT leads

Micra K11, 1995. Started stalling at traffic lights in the damp humid weather last week. Wiping the HT leads over with WD40 seemed to fix things. Now it's started doing this again, in dry weather. Also, intermittent slight dips in power when accelerating. Time to put in some new leads? Or should I investigate elsewhere first. The spark plugs have done 10k. The battery has been in there for years.

Thanks Bruce

I think you have answered your own question. I would certainly try new leads and new plugs.

I have a K10 and it makes so many funny noises I wouldn't know if it went wrong until it stopped.

good luck with it

Throttle body air mass sensor. =A3500 for a new one from Nissan, =A3200 quid from a reconditioner, =A3100 secondhand or twenty minutes work with a soldering iron. Your choice.

Thanks, Ian. If it's the air mass sensor, then bangernomics dictates that the car will be scrapped. I'll try WD40 in the short term, and shop around for some leads.

If it's the throttle body, and you're handy with a soldering iron, then=20 look here:

Just a tip: if you stick these at either end of a long link it won't wrap.

Did you read the bit about "... or twenty minutes work with a soldering iron"?

Ian

PS Summary: look for the little connector box on the right hand (car) side of the throttle body. Undo the two connectors going into it. Use a sharp knife to cut away the sealant which holds the lid on. Remove the lid. Resolder the three connections to the socket at the front and the three circuit board connections at the other end of those links (you'll see what I mean). Replace lid with some sealant to hold it in place. Refit connectors.

If you scrap it I'll have it! Where are you?

To to add my fun time report with the same problem on my K11. I did the soldering mod - it was pretty easy - but scary at the time. (You do need to know how to solder properly :) ). But anyway, it didn't fix the problem in my case. For a reason I now can't remember I changed the O2 sensor. That fixed it! The car has been fine ever since, idles perfectly, engine never misses etc etc - a nice little power unit really. hth
