Nissan Almera 04' Service.

Hello

This is my first car and on the off chance I decided to call my dealer where I bought the car with 2yr 3 months of warranty left. To see when they would contact me to confirm service was needed. They said 'oh we sometimes do this , anyway you've done 9000 miles so your due one, 28 dec 05 ok for you, that'll be =A3205 inc vat please.

I've got a couple of questions

1=2E I dont seem to have a service history book, should this have been provided at point of sale? 2=2E What should I make sure they've covered on service? 3=2E Is it wise to go elsewhere to find cheaper dealer who'll do it and if so how can I guarantee they'll use official nissan parts or be legit? 4=2E Should I ask for them to oil my gearbox as advice on this group suggests? 5=2E I think the salesman said they use part synethetic oil is it worth getting them to use fully synthetic? 6=2E What can I expect to need doing to the car (last service was at 11,000 miles when I bought it, I've done 9000). 7=2E Do they provide a (understandable) report to me so I can then ask questions.

Thanks for any help in advance. I need it?

Neil, I'll chip in - t'others will be along with comments any second now no doubt!

OK - if the car came from a Nissan franchised dealer then £205 would be about right for the "B" service. Nissans (hope they still do at least!) have 3 services - A,B and C. A is basically oil/filter change, fluid top up and check the key parts. B is Oil/Filter/Plugs/Air Filter and other bits and pieces, plus all the usual checks. C is B plus Brake Fluid/Coolant etc and a few more checks. Note that *none* of the scheduled services include things like checking Air Con (if you have it) as they are set on the most basic model in the range only (usually anyway). Things like bodywork inspections etc are ususally chargeable extras - and are sometimes required in order to maintain warranties (bloody mitsu-bloody-bishi etc)

If it was from a franchised dealer, then yes (really the answer is yes anyway!) - if you don't have one - they can and should have supplied one - and - assuming the car is from the franchised network, they should be able to mark it up with the pre-delivery inspection and the first service (that they have told you it's already had done), meaning that your service stamp this time round brings it all up to date.

As above - it should be a "B" service. So as long as it's, Oil, Oil Filter, Air Filter, replace spark plugs and all the "usual" checks then that's what you should be expecting.

Depends on what the warranty on the car says. Many makes use an insurance underwritten warranty (speshly the Jap brands) so you end up having to use the main dealer to maintain the warranty - check the warranty docs. There's threads-galore on this group about other places you *could* get it done - but it might be easier to get it done at the nissan dealer this time, and then look for a good local nissan specialist (if you are in Cambridge, East Anglia area I know a great one!).

Hmmm not sure about that one - but normally checking the gearbox oil is part of the B service (memory a bit grey on this one - could be the C)

They should use whatever the car is designed to use - the manual for the car will set out the spec needed - see elsewhere on the group for "oil - understanding it" discussions!

Not a lot providing you aren't a hooligan! Nissan stuff IME lasts quite well. You might be up for front brake pads - and maybe tyres if you are a "heavier" driver. Do yourself a favour on this one - do some research before the car goes to the garage about tyre prices - I've found main dealers will match/better other suppliers (I use etyres.co.uk personally as they come to me and I'm inherently lazy ;-) prices - so - when they call to say "you need 1/2/4 tyres" - you already know how much to expect them to quote, and haggle if it's more!.

It's a garage - so don't expect much - but - don't be afraid to ask questions. If they say something needs replacing - ask "why" - never hurts, and you get a much better knowledge about your car to boot as you go along....

Anytime - I expect this will be the first of many replies!

Cheers dan.
