If you can get hold of it a drop of toluene on a rag brings it off in a second. Meths will work but wipe it off immediately wash then re-apply the wax. Glass cleaner might be worth a try.

The car trade would use 'Prepaint' or Panel wipe. If you cannot get your hands on that use lighter fluid.
White Spirit will work but tends to be a bit greasy.
Try Duraglit wadding, it gets sticker residue of of plastic so it should work on painted surfaces. Trevor Smith

Duraglit is an abrasive, like all polishes, and will probably mark the paintwork.
