The glow plug preheat light on my '92 300D recently stopped lighting during what should have been preheat but comes on *after* the engine starts and glows for about 15 seconds. Any words of wisdom?

one or more of your plugs are not working Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

That means you got problem on your glow plug system. Do a resistance check on all your glow plugs. Make sure the fuse strip is good and has power...
It can be any conbination of:
- Glow plug(s)
- Glow plug relay
- Fuse
- Poor ground strap.
