Stink after MG Ride!

Nov 18, 2003 3 Replies

My son (17) bought a 74' MGB. He loves it, but he gets complaints when he drives to school that he reeks of exhaust/gas smell. Is this a part of the "MG Experience" or is something wrong that he can fix? He'd love to not have this happen, you know how it is in high school! Car is cool but smelling bad is not. Thanks for any hints/suggestions. He does have the garage door open when he warms it up, so that's not the problem.

If you live in the USA it could be that the Cat box is shot.

Check under the bonnet - the cover over the pedal to brake/clutch cylinder joints. If it's missing you get lots of oil mist into the cockpit.

Definitely not normal.

Check exhaust joints for leaks.

If it is exhaust fumes getting into the car he needs to be careful not to poison himself on a longer journey.

Hope he gets it sorted.
