radiator-can it be used?

Hi again-well thanks for the help on the last posts ,touch wood car still runnin fine and indicators sorted(it was a dodgy bulb holder!) but i recently "won" a new rad on ebay. It brand spankin new and states on the box that its to suit all minis from 59-96.However, i noticed that on the bottom there is no temp sender which i have on my current radiator. So is it possible to hook up some other device to show water temp using the existing wiring? After all my problems with overheating i NEED some indication!!! cheers!

Never seen a rad with a sender at the bottom. I've seen some with a drain there.

I would have thought that the bottom of the rad was a lot cooler than the top of the engine so would be an unusual place to fit a temp sender.

Have you not got a sender in the cylinder head below the thermostat housing?

I think the one on the bottom of the rad is for the electric fan on later minis, if that one hasn't got one then you can get a facet aftermarket one that is adjustable and has a probe that slides into the rad pipe before you tighten it up.

That is assuming you have a later mini with electric fan!

You bought the wrong radiator but it's not a disaster .

Simply take it to a shop and have a bung matching the sensor welded in before you install the radiator.

Just wire up the fan to a switch on the dash, powered from a fused live feed.
