Re: new mini, not the bmw fake one

i am thinking of buying a NEW shell from british motor heritage, thus

Porper, is that some sort of body kit ;-)

Has anyone ever built one ground up on a heritage shell using pattern new components all the way through build ?

(Instead of starting with a donor car and restoring ?)

Be interesting to know how much that cost.

I guess nearly everything is still made as a pattern part ?

Not so long ago there was a chat here or on Minilist about completely new Minis which were being built to order by someone. I don't seem to have kept any reference, though.

Yes, but you can't use them. Well, at least not until after the SVA test. Remember, you have to keep a certain amount of old tat or you end up with the dreaded Q plate. AFAIK, there would be no way to get an 06 plate on a classic Mini shell (but I could be wrong). Besides, it would be highly beneficial to use a tax exempt donor car n'est pas?

As far as buiding (or more to the point completing) a brand new classic out of ALL brand new parts, I think you'd be hard pressed to find all the parts to do it. Some of the little things (trim and fasteners) are already starting to become NLA.

Mini Magazine did a reshell with a brand new Hertiage shell a couple of years ago. Came out nice.

If you use a new shell and all new or reconditioned parts it is possible to get a new registration. Limited production component car manufacturers do it all the time.

If you buy a new engine and subframe you can register it with a new plate can't you?
