It sounds like your filler cap is missing a gasket. Every 6G72 engine I've ever seen has a spring metal gasket attached to the underside. Order a new gasket from Mitsubishi. Part MD103148 "Gasket, Engine Oil Fuller Cap". Or just go to a junkyard and get a used cap.
