Mitsubishi Space Runner - Help!!!!

Hi, I've got a 1994 1.8 Space Runner that is failing the UK MoT emissions test. Lambda and Hydrocarbons are spot on, having replaced the whole exhaust (except manifold) after it was leaking, but can't get CO emissions below

5.5ppm. I've changed the plugs and air filter, the plugs were clean with no coking at all.

The engine management system had some error codes on the throttle pedal sensor, oxygen sensor and fuel flow sensor, which disappeared after resetting. My garage mechanics are scratching there heads. anyone had any similar problems before, or any suggestions??

Many thanks in advance.

catalytic converter perhaps? the fuel/air mixture should be computer controlled, make sure the timing is dead on.

Did you replace the plug wires too? If it has a cap and rotor, do that too.

I'd probably put a new O2 in there also.

Silly, but I'd also try some fuel injector cleaner, It's saved me more than once on the emissions inspection.

Hi Stu

Your engine air/fuel management system is controlled by a sensor located just before the air cleaner inlet box. Try changing the sensor ( yes, it will probably be very expensive, but then you'll get another

10 years service out of it).

You will know if it is faulty, as the engine will start and idle poorly when cold.

Also try advancing the timing up to 10 degrees BTDC (back off slightly if engine pings) The computer only control the advance retard when the car is moving and you will find the cars economy and power really pick up, as well as being cleaner.

This works for HK cars, however we have 16 valvers x 2 litres here, though the engine management system is the same.
