My 97 Montero (not Sport) needs a replacement 3.5 engine.
One guy has an engine from a 2002 which he says will "drop right in". He mentioned that he would use the air plenum assembly and air flow thing from my old one so it will "work with the computer". Anything else need to be used from the old engine/changed?
Another guy, who has an engine from another 97 (with considerably more miles on it) says a 2002 engine cannot be put into a 97, although he didn't give specifics about what the problem is/are.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
