Have you and Dervy managed to find an amazing supply of ULTRA SHIT rubber or something ? :)

From memory, my bargain-basement rubber has been Nankang, Hankook, Marshall and Federal, and probably others too.

Ah, well my no-name tyres have all been V or Z rated with a very low profile, so they've all had fancy tread-patterns. Perhaps that's what does the trick ?

:D

Andy specials are the best :) Never had the Nangkangs or Marhshalls, but had Fuldas, Hankook and Federals. The Federals had the most agressive and purposeful looking pattern, and were way over rated in terms of speed rating for the 405, i think they were probly the best ones, not that there was much of a difference...

wern't they some sort of 80's rock band?

they sound a bit shit to be honest, maybe you should let some air out, let it down to maybe 20 lbs and see what happens? it can't be worse than it is already can it?

in news: snipped-for-privacy@news2.newsguy.com, "Nom" slurred :

I think that there must be a difference between small and large tyres of the same brand - I've had a variety of 'Top', Toyo, dunlop, Camac, pirelli and Uniroyals on my 205 (13" wheels), and the difference between the decent makes and the crap ones is *huge*. The 'Top' tyres that were on the car when I got it had loads of tread, but would easily spin the wheels in third and understeered incredibly in the wet. The uniroyals are the best I have tried and grip better in the wet than the Top and Camacs did in the dry (honestly - I did accelerometer tests to prove it...) That said, the bigger Camacs on my 405 seem fine in wet and dry.

Agreed.

My dodgy no-name tyres have always been V or Z rated, square-shouldered low-profile items. I suspect a tyre of those specs is automatically pretty good - and the shape ensures there aren't any problems with it rolling on the rim etc.
