How quick to 60 is your car?

What spec is it? Link to some details :-) ?

Is the BSK or something the hot one?

Found it interesting that todays most powerful hot hatches 197, CTR, Golf Gti nearly 8 years after production of the Rover ceased, cannot better those figures.

Also, in a very light car with 200BHP and fwd, traction must have been a serious issue.

As I don't know a thing about/never really liked Rovers, I wasn't disputing the stats either way. The MG Version of the 75 was IMHO a good effort however :-)

In general use they are surprisingly a bit of a pig to drive and, compared to a less highly strung turbo car (around the 200bhp level for instance), has quite a narrow powerband. The acceleration contained within that powerband however, is quite grin inducing (It will toast a TI, Civic Type-R, Baby Impreza or anything else around the 200bhp level for instance).

Consumption is astonishingly dreadful, but I blame a lot of that on feathering the throttle to make it burble :)

As a result, this is why we always say in here that 0-60 is a very poor way of judging a car's performance. An old car and a new car may intially appear to be of similar performance when judging by the launch time, but once moving the in-gear accelleration will generally be markedly better in the newer more powerful car as the weight becomes less of an issue and the power/torque is allowed to strut its stuff.

An issue... yes, but I wouldn't say a /serious issue/. As a former 620TI owner, I wouldn't say that I ever had a problem with traction off the line (in the dry) as the diff kept things under control (same diff also featured in the 220 turbo). Whereas in a Scoob I find you need to give it plenty of throttle to launch it quickly, with the TI you could just set off with a comparatively low amount of revs without bogging down, letting the power ease in without overcoming the traction.

The last batch of MG cars (the ZS, ZR and ZT) were never about speed though, they were just cooking level cars with a bit of halfords trim on to make Rover appeal to a younger generation, an attempt to drop the pipe and tartan slippers image.

Manual s14. I've got a boost gauge, full decat exhaust, filter and bren device on there now with it running at 14 psi as I was hitting the fuel cut occasionally when the weather was cold at 15 psi. It certainly feels much quicker now so I'd believe a low 6 second 0-60 is do able. As standard though it didn't feel much quicker than my old volvo 940 turbo but that may have been tweaked slightly before I got it and the exhaust on the sx was knackered.

I think my 205D 1.8 is still winning :-)

Seen 7.5 and 131mph quoted - probably with seriously brutal launch.
