Oh...

...must resist, MUST RESIST.

I've spotted a Vauxhall Combo van with a C20XE conversion.

Bar the alloys, it looks nigh on standard from the outside... and it's well within budget.

Someone talk me out of it!

Would be spot on with a set of matt black wide steels I reckon. :-D

Late CDTi Combos have 15" steels ;-) Go for it.

It should be a required business essential.

IIRC, these have the standard 4x100 stud pattern just like all the other Vauxhalls of that era.

Just trying to beat the seller down on the price at the mo. :-D

Nope, sorry. We don't do that around here.

Sounds good to me :).

Like I'll be trying with the seller of the Integra in a moment[1]. Was a good idea to have someone who knows these things check it over.

[1] Urgently needs a cambelt, which I suspected but I didn't realise how urgent it was (the idlers are already rattling). That wouldn't be a dealbreaker, but the clutch is also on the way out...

Well at least you've caught it before you've been caught, IYSWIM. :-)

If you do get it, I definitely want a drive of that at some stage... if you don't mind, of course. :-D

If the Golf is imminently due to be punted on, I better sort out getting the plate off of that soonish.

Might be 'interesting' what with the rear leaf springs ;-)

Surely they should have done a C20LET?

Timo Geusch gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

So if the mechanicals are coming out for the clutch, the cambelt'll be easy to do at the same time, right...?

Very true... although it'll be carrying tools etc if I do get it, so that should calm it down a little.

Been lowered on the front and has Calibra front brakes as well. :-)

I suspect they're neither that common or as cheap to source as a C20XE.

Anyway, they're not a bad lump - decent power for the size.

Indeed, and that's why I asked Zeca if he would mind checking it over. The seller wasn't too pleased when I unveiled my revised offer, though. Especially as he "had some other people contact him about the car in the last couple of days". They're obviously queueing outside his gaff, given that the car's been for sale for a good two-three weeks ;).

Sod this, I'm not paying that much for the car if I need to throw another 700+ quid at it straight away.

As long as you pay for any bent or broken bits :).

Not that imminent. I should know tomorrow if the ITR is a goer or not, but even if I get it on the weekend it'll be another few weeks before I'll look into de-Golfing. Worst case, I'll just put the number on retention.

LOL

So long as he can see how Zeca has come to his conclusion with regards to the clutch, I can't see why you wouldn't be able to come to some sort of compromise if he's a decent chap.

Absolutely.

Assuming this van comes off, I can afford to keep the Passat as well rather than that having to give way for a Berlingo or whatever, in which case I want to uprate the brakes asap and get it out for an afternoon at Lydden at some stage soon, so maybe I could kill two birds with one stone and take the Integra out with the Passat by trying to 'stuff you up the inside'. ;-)

Although I reckon the van could be 'interesting' on the track.

Ok, that sounds good to me.

Many thanks. :-)

Something like this. I'm a bit too old to fall for that :).

Oh, he is and Zeca told me that he explained to him exactly what needed fixing and why. Trouble is that I've pretty much had to revise my offer further than he had expected/hoped because I'd need to replace some of the worn parts with more expensive uprated parts simply because of the intended use of the car. I've not asked him to knock the complete cost of the repair off, but as I explained to the seller, my constraint is that I'd need to get the work done right away and even if I leave out the stickier tyres etc, I'm getting too close to the prices of import DC2s (post-haggle prices, that is) otherwise.

Not to mention that at our original price, I'd be looking at M3 money if I factor in the repairs and I know which one I'd rather have.

Heh.

Probably too softly suspension-wise.

No probs.

And some VW's as a I recall. I used to have VW alloys on a MK1 Ashtray.

Aye... and Hondas... Rover 200s... various other rice wagons too IIRC.

Just waiting for confirmation from the owner it's not got any mechanical issues, and it would appear to be a done deal. :-)

And that is the very PCD of the five spoke 7J x15 " Revolution I have here just now. To those of us 'of a certain age', these are believe it or not, still a cool wheel.

The set I have are in need of a polish right enough.

The 4 spokes used to look mint on Minis.

I've been considering getting some for the SD1, these one's in fact:

They're only just up the road and have popped up for sale a few times. Problem is I need to spending my money on more important things really so I can actually get an Mot. They would look awesome once cleaned up though :)

Everything water cooled through until the MK3 GTI / VR6. Boggo MK3s are still 4x100, so are 6N Polos...

BBS split rims FTW!
