71-73

I think the 71 to 73 Mustang sportsroof is the most beautiful car ever produced.....anybody in the UK want to swop one for my '66 coupe?...or would I be making a mistake......

Unless you traded for a pristine Mach 1, or something like a 1972

351C. H.O. that actually has value, you would be making a *monetary* mistake--they are not worth as much. I have a fondness for the 71-73s, as I owned a '73 Mach 1 myself. They are very striking visually. They are, however, difficult cars for which to obtain parts. Some guy bought mine, put it on a boat, and took it to Japan. :( I wish I could have afforded to keep it at the time.

IMO, the first year of the sportsroof, 1969, looked the best. The rear brake cooler air vent adds something special, even if it was non-functional. In '70 and after they looked too low and long in the front and the rear window seemed to go on forever.

The 1970 is the same body as the 1969 so how could the roof go on forever? I think you mean '71 and after. The main differences on a '70 is the grille and front extensions, lack of the ersatz quarter scoops and the rear panel is flat and taillights are "frenched" in. BTW '69 BOSS 302's have no side scoops either. StuK

Because Larry Shinoda didn't "want anything fake" on his cars. I'd heard that the Boss 429's were also going to be sans quarter scoop also, but the bodies had already left for Kar Kraft for the upgrades.

If you ever see a Shinoda's prototype you can actually see the panels he installed to cover them up. IIRC it was a 428 mach 1 he used as the prototype. StuK

I remember seeing a picture of the honorable Mr. Shinoda's personal Boss

302, albeit a long time ago and probably in an early 90's Mustang Monthly. It didn't have the stripes on it and looked more like a GT with the rear slats and front spoiler. IIRC it was Wimbledon White and had a stock hood without the shaker. He didn't appear in the pic but his kids were sitting on the hood (spare the sheetmetal, ouch). I wonder where this car is now??? I'd rather have a line on THAT car than the original '68 Bullitt. The one created and owned by "The Master" of all that is "BOSS".
