Well Kate you were as good as right. The leak did occur at a frost (freeze) plug only that the plug had been replaced with a block heater (I think the factory does that for the Canadian market) . Element was corroded but leaking occurred around the "O" ring. Whole assembly must have moved slightly and reseated itself. Thanks to those that responded.
