93 Sunbird, heater core? help!

93 Sunbird, it kept overheating, so I replaced the thermostat. Now it doesn't read that it's over heating, but now (and it did this before too), without having the HVAC system on at all, sometimes, it it spews forth steam/mist into the car, and it smells kinda like antifreeze. Someone unreliable said this same thing happened to their car, (non-pontiac) and they said it was the heater core. Help.

Sounds like heater core is shot. It happens frequently when mixing aluminum and iron parts - the aluminum gets sacrificed/eaten. Get a copper one. Flush the system before installing the new copper core. BTW, the heater never shuts off.
