CA Emissions PKG

Not GM related but was wondering if anybody knew what a California Emissions Package adds to a vehicle? I saw a used 2003 Lincoln Town Car on a lot ( here in Illinois ) and noticed it said it had a CA Emissions Package on it.



How would it differ from a car being built to be sold in IL that doesn't have a strict emission policy like CA ?


Any parts on the engine that would have to be ordered from CA in case they died, as dealers here ( in IL ) would have no reason to stock such items.



Would the engine & components be the same between the various states or does it jsut have to do with the way the car is programmed?

Mainly, just stricter emissions controls. I have two California emissions cars in Washington state. I've never had any problem getting parts for them.
