Intermittent stalling on 1998 Gran Prix 3.8l

I own a 1998 Pontiac Gran Prix SE with a normally aspirated 3.8l V-6. Lately it has developed a problem which is not setting a fault code. The first sign of a problem is the Tachometer drops to zero, then the traction control light indicator shows "off" and finally the car loses power and dies. The last two steps do not happen all the time and the car always starts up again immediately if it does stall. If it doesn't stall the tach remains at zero and the traction control remains off until I turn the ignition off and then re-start it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The tach should come from the ignition, so it may be a prob with the ignition system. If you have a loose connection the computer may cut the gas off if it thinks the engine is at 0 RPM. Strange that the car doesn't stall sometimes though. You may want to check the ABS/Speed sensor. Look behind the rotor. (R&L sides) You will see 2 wires coming out to a plug & socket. They should hang on a metal clip. Check to see if either wire are broken or loosing connection. If it is the sensor, it may just be coverd in break dust. Does the speedo work normally? Most vehicles use this sensor for speed measurement also. I would think the GP does also.
