Vibration '97 Grand Am 3.1 auto 170K

Hello,

I have a intermittant vibration that starts at 30-45mph and goes all the way. I installed new tires and alloy rims to cure this but something caused the NEW front tires to go out of round. Installers at TireRama said the tires were faulty and slapped on a whole new set (Yokohama H4/V4 Avids). The car pushed those out of round as well and as it does the vibration gets worse and worse. Les Schwab aligned, rebalanced, replaced my struts with KYB's and gave the ball joints, control arms and CV joints a good bill of health. My question to all of you here is "What else causes vibration in the steering wheel and chassis besides the parts mentioned above?"

Could the transmission mainshaft or steering rack do this?

Thanks in advance!!

Ball joints lie to you, they can appear tight and trouble free but they will fool you every time. Just replaced both sets on my montana and it instantly solved the problem, tightened up the steering too. The montana only had 70k miles on it. Loading down the rear end excessively will tell you if it is in fact the load bearing ball joints, considering the amount of miles on your car, it would be a good idea to replace them anyway.

Thanks TM, thats what I will do next then. I agree thats a good move given the miles on it. I will report back to the group when I get 'er done. Chris
