Rover Metro 1.4 GSi Cooling Problems

I rentry replaced the radiator in my sons Rover Metro 1.4 GSi (8 valve Single Point Injection).

I now can't get the coolant to circulate properly. Hot water comes out the cylinder head and goes into the rad and the heater but cooler water doesn't come out of the rad. Its like the water pump isn't pumping or the thermostat is stuck closed. Both of which I've checked.

I suspect an air lock, any ideas or similar experiences?

On these models the water circulates the oposite way round ie hot water goes in the bottom of the rad from the thermostat at the pump and reurns to the head via the top hose, so if the top hose is hot water is circulating.

has it been bled correctly using the bleed screw (located under the distributor) they can be difficult to bleed, i ussually run at around

2500rpm for a minute or so, even using the bleed screw you will still find air pockets that will eventually work round to the header tank if bled this way. steve.
