The local Utah dealer is offering $7000 incentives on the 9-2X. I think the list is in the low 20's.
What can this mean aside from poor sales?
I'm really worried about the brand. Think I'll hang onto my 2002 9-3 for awhile.

If you think that discount is good, take a look at what is offered to GM Employees. A 9-2X (Linear) can be had for as little as $15,321, with applicable discounts. This is a fixed price; no negotiating necessary.
I think this is more of a problem with poor sales at GM in general (no pun intended), and that the 9-2X is a temporary model until Saab brings out their own design. Have you ever seen a GM executive beg "Please buy our cars"?
LOL! That's downright funny! I wonder if they'll ever realize how detached they are from reality.
Ouch. This is pathetic. I'd start looking for a new job if I were a GM employee...
They probably don't. It only took them 2 decades to figure out that building cars "more like the Japanese" isn't enough, the cars actually have to be reliable. The next thing they have yet to figure out is that if they design cars based on the results of focus groups, their target market will end up being all those of retirement age and they won't have anything interesting enough for the rest of us to buy..
The 9-2X seems to have a bit of a dismal failure because it was pushed into a segment of the market already filled by vehicles from Subaru made on the same basic platform.
It wasn't sold here in Australia - fortunately.
Craig.
That worry didn't just start now did it? There's been plenty to worry about before...

world-wide!
So with all the upgrades SAAB did to the car it now costs less than the Subaru? I always thought that trying to sell a premium hatch in the USA is a gamble. I guess we will see how Audi does with the A3...
No more 9-3 hatchback. No Swedish design or manufacturing input.
I was worried before.
I'm -really- worried now!

And ... it has come to pass. GM employee discounts now available to all.
This is funny, I looked at a 92x before buying a Viggen last summer. By the time I was done getting what I wanted (not a lot) on the 92x, I was up to $31K. For another $1K, I could have a full loaded 93 Arc....What a tough decision. What is even funnier is that the dealer wouldn't budge on price, spouted about the "premiumness" of Saab and how they were only getting a few of these. I went by the dealer a month ago and they have 4 92x's they can't get rid of.
I just might have to look at a 9-2, especially if it costs less than the same Subaru model. Imagine, a new Saaburu for $16,000 - in 2005! I paid $12,000 in 1985 for my C900 8V. This Saaburu just might make a fine beater car at $16,000.
