hello, any idea on the car running at 2/3 temp gauge, and a crap heater..

what is the funny layout between the heater pipes, and what is the black union that converges the two heater pipes. bernie

When the car is running hot, coolant flow to the heater core is automatically stopped to divert all coolant to the radiator, where heat exchange is most efficient. Why, then, is it running hot to begin with? Bad thermostat or radiator fan thermoswitch maybe? Partially clogged radiator?

That would be the valve that controls coolant flow to the heater core. It's connected directly to the heater knob by a rod. One of the pipes is for coolant flow into the heater core, and the other is for it to flow back out to the engine. I'm not totally sure what you mean by "funny layout."
