9000 Oxygen Sensor Replacement Problem

Last year I replaced the front oxygen sensor on my 98 9000 CSE with no hassle. It came out easily with a Crescent wrench. With 98000 mile plus I am now getting an intermittent "check engine" light again and I assume it is time to replace the rear sensor. To get at it I even bought a special wrench. With an 18 inch breaker bar it does not budge (I have broken enough things in my life to know at about what point to let up). In any case, has anyone had experience with such? Any suggestions short of taking out the converter? Dare I use a torch on the catalytic converter or would that finish it? Maybe just ignore it until the light is no longer intermittent?

Constructive comments will be appreciated.

Erm, remove the top of the dash, remove the two screws holding in the instrument cluster, rotate upwards. Remove check engine light bulb.

End of warning light! :)

But seriously...Is it not worth getting it diagnosed first before worrying about removal? Have you checked the voltage from the O2 sensor for starters?

At the moment the voltage is within specs. In fact the light has been out now for the last 400 miles. Maybe the warm weather has something to do with it. I will wait until it comes on again go for a diagnosis. The Saab dealer charges $60. Autozone will do it for free but in my experience their test apparatus does not tell you much more than the light.

Thanks for the advice. Ramsey

When the mechanics at SAAB replaced the O2 sensor on my 9000 they used a torch to heat up the area surrounding the sensor, it than came out easily. Also did you try to soak it overnight with DW40 or other anti-seize spray?
