The factory warranty on my Saab is about to expire and I am going to take it to the dealership to resolve a few small issues. They do not bother me that much but it would be nice to fix them under the warranty. This is a 5-speed light pressure turbo car without climate control.
- About a year ago I noticed a slight whistle coming from the engine when shift gears. It occurred when I pressed the clutch especially under heavy acceleration. I took it to a dealership and they replaced the belt (not the timing belt/chain) which fixed about 95% of the problem. I can't hear it during normal accelaration but sometimes I hear it during heavy accelaration. The dealer says this is normal and that this is turbo noise.
There are also two other things that seem to be related to this. a. There is a constant whistling sound for about a minute or two when I start the car on cold days in the winter. b. With the A/C on the engine sounds a little different. It sounds like the rpm goes up a little after I shift gears which the tachometer does not confirm. My theory is that the A/C puts extra load on the belt which generates this belt related noise. This is so annoying that it actually affects my decision when to turn on the A/C. This "problem" actually was present when I bought the car 2 years ago.
Does anyone have any ideas why this is taking place? Could this be a bad belt tensioner?
- There is some rattling noise coming from under the dashboard. This is especially pronounced during the winter and driving downhill and it becomes worse after driving on bumpy roads. The noise often goes away so it may be hard to prove the problem to the dealer. Is there anything in particular that tends to rattle there? I am thinking that if I come to the dealership more informed it would be harder for the dealer to dismiss my complaint if I can't demonstrate the rattle.
