Random vibration followed by very hot wheel.

Wheel bearing? Jack up that corner, grab the wheel and wiggle it side to side and top/bottom. Any play? Should be none.

Indeed, check as Grunff says, since bad bearings tend to have play in them. But if that gives no result, remove wheel and turn hub by hand (select netural). Should be smooth, minus the scraping of the disk pads on the disk. If in doubt, remove pads and repeat test.

One other thought - could even be so simple a thing as a seized caliper (though the symptom is not often what you'd call a "vibration"). To test, wait until nightfall then drive a couple of kilometres. If you see that nice warm glow on the disk, then you know what to do ;-)

But I'll bet on Grunff's wheel bearing theory first.
