I guess nobody else has had this problem, judging from thre complete lack of responses. Strange, as this is my second 9000 to quit heating the footwells.

Doug, Sorry I didn't spot your original post. Sorry also that I don't know the solution, but I can confirm you are not alone.

My 1992 9000 CS with Aircon has always been exactly the same. But just once a couple of years ago, for no particular reason, I got sudden and unexpected hot air in abundance on my feet.

As far as I can tell, it's not so much a lack of heat as a lack of airflow. What dribbles out is plenty hot enough, but there's just very little of it even on full fan. I reckon it's a sticky flap valve down in the bowels of the system, but have never penetrated that deep.

Has anyone got a decent diagram or schematic of the ducting?

Well, I have the Air-con manual!! The direction of the air is controlled by one stepping motor only, which rotates a "valve" which direct the airflow this that and any-way. If you are getting different air flows to the screen etc., then this is working. There is another motor that controls a second flap that directs air through the heater or not. These two control all the variations of heat/cold and direction. A Tech II should find the fault.

Adrian,

You're right - it is a near total lack of airflow in the footwells. I have the parts catalogue on CD ROM and there's a couple of baffles (flaps) in the heater, connected by a "link". I've seen elsewhere that this broke fairly frequently on early 9000's and there was a service part to fix it. Curiously mine if a very late 9000 and I believe the problem was supposed to be fixed.

I'm guessing that if I rip my dash out to get to it, I'll find that's the problem. I think I'll wait for some warmer weather before I start

- I'll live with "top heat" 'till then :)

Greetings to NZ - beautiful country!

I'm guessing it's the flaps causing the problem. Plenty of flow to screen or facia (dashboard) vents but nothing to the footwells. Thanks for the info.
