SID's logic?

I have had my 2001 9-3 SE automatic for a little over a month now. Up until now I have only been driving to and from work and running around town. SID has displayed the fuel consumpition being between 10.6-10.8 L/100km. Last weekend I drove a 600km round trip to a friends birthday party. This was like a maiden vouge, the first time Saab and I had been on the highway together for a long trip.(Oh, this is a great car to drive, powerful and smooth) Anyway, I was following the fuel consumption expecting it to drop in the first twenty minutes(I read somewhere that the average consumption is based on a twenty minute time frame) but it did not. After the first hour it had only droped 0.2L /100km. It continued to drop over the 3 hour journey and when I reached my destination it was had dropped from 10.6 to 9.8. The next day i Returned to home and it had droped from 9.8 to 9.1. My question, what is the time frame from where the fuel consumption is measured? If I were to set out on another long trip, is there anyway to reset SID to show my fuel consumption on this trip?

thanks, keith

You expectation was wrong. There is no "twenty minute time frame" in the fuel consumption calculations done by the SID.

The fuel consumption is calculated from the time the SID was reset up to the current time.

Press the CLR button until you get an accoustic signal and the message "CLEARED".

All this should be documented in the users manual delivered with the car.

Of course, that makes sense. This info probably is in the manual but I have not layed my hand on an English version yet. I purchased the car and am driving it in Finland, I got the Finish/Swedish manual.

Thanks; keith
