Auto Transmission shift points - '02 OBW

Our 'new' '02 OBW seems to like to shift into 4th gear (torque converter) at around 40MPH. It is always very eager to do this, which I figure is the way the computer was set to achieve a MPG rating. The battery has been disconnected for various reasons in the last month, such as a stereo install and block heater installation. I would have thought that the transmission controller would have forgotten its learned behaviour while unplugged. It's quite the snappy shifter, not quite as buttery smooth as my Chrysler, but firm. The only thing we really don't like is that it's upshift happy. The only way around it is to pull the gear selector back to "3", but that gets old after a while.

The car is driven fairly hard, but not rough. 4k RPM accelerations are not unusual (noted when the tachometer actually worked). Is there any way to control the controller so that it upshifts at 45MPH instead of 40MPH? A higher speed would give better control and smoother acceleration, instead of the jerky feeling because the engine is revving too low to accerate without downshifting.

Thank you in advance for any replies.
