how do I tell if I have limited slip differential?

2002 Subaru Outback, 4 cylinder, manual. I think its just the base model.

Is the slippage limited?, if so then you have LSD.

Differential will have a metal tag with "LSD" imprinted.

lift rear wheels, put in neutral, turn one wheel and watch the other side, if it turns in opposite direction then it's not LSD. or, lift one rear wheel, put in neutral, if you can turn wheel by hand then it's not LSD.

IIRC, in 2002 only WRXs had rear limited slip diffs. I think they were VLSD's too.

My '01 4 cylinder Outback Base Wagon had limited slip. Did they remove it in '02?

My 2000 Forester S has one. I think ALL but the base model of the Outback, Impresa and Forester has a LS differential.

Like I said, everything except a WRX gets an open rear diff.

However, you do have a center VLSD however, that's standard on all 2002 Imprezas
