more newbie ?'s- undercoating help

hi again from a slightly nervous new/used owner

i recently bought a 2000 outback that began it's life in vermont. while on the lift, i noticed that there is already the beginnings of rust and "possible" corosion on the undercarriage and rear brake parts.

i'm not a fan of aftermarket undersprays and treatments, but might it be a good idea in this case, or just wait a while to see what happens?

thanks again.....

A certain amount of rust on the outside of the brake drums, etc is normal. In anycase, if metal has started to rust, covering it with undercoating won't help, in fact it might make matters worse by trapping moisture.

Most of the aftermarket, and many of the OEM undercoatings aren't worth a damn anyway.

this is more on the calipers and mechanisms than the wheels. plus the "frame"/ suspension is peeling th paint a little. it must snow like hell in vermont.

Sounds like it salts like hell in Vermont. :-)
