Paint damage

Aug 13, 2003 2 Replies

While washing my '02 Forester today, I came upon something that I thought was bird crap, right on the center of the hood's front. I used a soft towel and car wash soap to remove the crap, but now noticed that the paint under it seems to be damaged. It looks raised and in a spot it looks like the clearcoat is gone. Now I doubt this was bird droppings at all, or else this bird was seriously sick. How tough is Subaru's paintjob? Any ideas on how to repair this myself?

(I refer to Meguiar's products 'cause I am quite familiar with them and most always use them. I know other co's have similar products, these are just the steps to try along the way, in increasing battle toughness!) First I'd try a tough polish like Meguiar's swirl remover. If that doesn't work, and it sounds like it very well may not, I'd go to their Body Scrub, which has more chemicals in it and can be used to remove bugs from paint. Next one to use would be their Medium Cut Cleaner, or a Quik clay bar. Terry - '02 Regatta-Red 5spd GT wagon - 24k miles Yakima / TandeMover / Rockymount rack To reply, get rid of the "nonsense"
