1991 Toyota Camry 4 cyl

It has 190,000 miles. It losses oil quickly. I just assumed it burned it. However, I just recently put it up for sale and an interested buyer took it to the local mechanic. He returned and stated that the mechanic found that the oil loss is due to a faulty distributor. Somehow the oil is being diverted through a pinhole. Could this be the reason for the loss of oil? Never heard of anything like this before. Thanks. RC

if the distributor was faulty i would believe the car would not idle well. does the car smoke?

Yes, this could be the reason for the oil loss, but since it loses oil quickly there should be plenty of evidence of the oil leak in the area of the distributor. One thing that can happen is the o-ring that seals between the distributor and the block can fail.
