Will idling a 2006 impala ss for prolonged times in park (3-4 hours) with only minimal accessories on cause the battery to discharge and the check battery light to come on. In other words how much output is the alternator producing under these conditions?

The output should remain steady at 14+ volts at idle, but extreme temps caused by extended idling (and I'm assuming the A/C is on, yes?) could cause the alternator's output to decrease a bit...and if the A/C is on, you are providing high amps to the A/C compressor clutch and two radiator fans plus the blower motor, and the fuel pump, ECM, fuel injectors, there's a lotta electrical on cars anymore... one of the reasons police versions have an upgraded unit...
Curious, why would you want to idle a motor that long? Bad idea:nono: ..
