91 Mazda 929 brakes

It's finally time to replace my rotors. I have avoided it for quite a while b/c i recall a while back when i first looked into it, I believe they are part of a whole hub assembly, not just a typical slide-off rotor. I have replaced the pads and bled the lines regularly over the years.

Maybe my recollection is off and this is just a regular ol' brake job, but I seem to recall that for this car there was going to be more to it and that's why I put it off...

can't find a haynes or chilton's (i know--they can both be inadequate manuals), but it's just a brake job.

before i go pulling stuff apart i thought i'd check in here and see what you folks have to say..this group has been very helpful in the past.

btw--did a google for mazda brake repair instructions. usually someone has a website that spells it our but could not find anything for this model...just a bunch of parts stores...

thanks.

Your 929 uses rotor/hub assemblies in front. If you have ever removed a rotor/hub from the front spindle of any number of rear wheel drive American vehicles, the process is identical.

The new rotor should come with inner bearing races installed -- so you may want to buy new tapered bearings at the same time to gain a matching set. A cheaper alternative would be to carefully punch out the old races in your old rotors, punch out the new races and discard them, then install the old races in the new rotors along with the original tapered bearings.

Of course my suggestion is to spend the $30 and get four new bearings, but you do what your pocket book and sensibilities dictate.

I seem to recall seeing a mention once that at least some Mazda rotors are held on by bolts that are inserted through the rear of the hub. In other words, the hub has to come off the car in order to get at them.
