chrome moly sockets stronger than chrome vanadium?

You always see these black chrome vanadium socket sets being advertised as "impact sockets" but are they really? The black color is meant to make you think that (but I think that's a gimmick because the color is only surface thick), I know but is the real deal the chrome moly socket sets and if so, are they good for everyday use too? Do they last longer? How much stronger are they?

I saw some chrome moly socket sets at autozone today and they really look cool and feel very good. They say they are impact sockets and I believe it. Where do you get your impact sockets from? Are they chrome moly?

Real impact sockets don't have a shiny, "chrome" appearance. The color is a dull, gray-black. They're also obviously much beefier than a standard socket. Buy them at a reputable place that sells decent tools. Unlikely you'll ever have to buy another, I doubt you're strong enough to break one by hand under normal conditions. Fact is, you'll shear the bolt or strip the nut before you break that impact socket if it's the real deal.

Let me ammend that by saying, none that I've ever seen.

Real impact sockets are not chromed because that chrome can peel or flake off, turning the socket into a cuisinart for your hands.

Not only that, but hydrogen embrittlement from the plating process can't be any good either.
