Hiya,
I started up my 4 cylinder 151 c.i. pontiac Iron Duke engine after letting the car sit for a year. It has 71,000 miles on it.
My procedure was to install a freshly charged battery and just let the engine keep cranking to lubricate it. The engine cranked for over a minute before it started up on its own and then disaster struck.
Some really nasty clanging greeted me almost immediately. I turned it off and let it sit for five minutes and then tried again. No good news, just more banging and racket. I have never experienced such an engine failure as this. The engine was tight I thought.
Next month I'm going to pull the head off and see if there is debris caught in the value or something. Any imput on this experience would be appreciated.
