Help me I am Down!!! Speedometer panel lights are gone? Camry 2000 Just washed underhood?

Feb 23, 2004 2 Replies

I took my Camry to wash today and I directed high pressure water under hood to clean up the salt. My wife clean the dash board by sparying alcohol. I beleive I might have hit an electrical wire or made it to short circuit.

I would really appreciate if someone can help me to figure out what is wrong? Can I fix it myself. Every time I go to dealer they screw me up. I need to figure out why? Will a local repairman do a better job fixing the fuse. Thank you all who reply.

99% chance it's your fuse. If you can't change a fuse you shouldn't own a car. When you clean under the hood dont spray near where your wiring goes into the firewall or your distributer (some use plastic bags for protection). In fact dont put the pressure washer on anything under the hood that isn't 100% metal. Go get a haynes manual to learn all the basics, it should have a "for dummy's" explanation of where the fuse box is and how fuses work.

Do yourself a favour and learn how to fix your own car, dealers and garages are very irreputable businesses. Over half of them will rip you off, period, the whole industry is a cesspool of crooks.

Check the fuses and breakers (all of them). If no fuses blew, you probably just got something a little too wet and it is shorting through the water. Let it dry out for a day or two and it might start working again.

You are not doing the dashboard any favors with alcohol either. It will dry it out and make it crack if you do it too many times.
