Merury Villager: Radiator Fan no go???

Can anyone please offer some troubleshooting techniques for a radiator fan? I admit to being an incompetent auto technician.

My 1995 Nissan Quest/(Mercury Villager) overheats. I recently changed the thermostat and purged the coolant system without fixing the overheating problem. I finally realized that the radiator fan never turns on and it only overheats in town.

The A/C compressor will cycle on and a minute later cycle off. The radiator fan never turns on even when the temperature gauge reads above normal. There are three radiator fan relays and a fuse under the hood; Hi-1, Hi-2, and low. I checked for continuity across the coils on all three. The fuse tested good.

I thought I should be able to short the contact terminals on the relay sockets and force the fan to come on. However, this did not work for whatever reason.

I suppose tomorrow I can check the fan motor winding resistance. And also, make sure the fan turns freely.

Meanwhile I am running out of ideas. Please send me any troubleshooting tips or suggestions.

Thanks in advance,

You can try jumpering the fan directly to the battery and see if it runs..
