Question: removal of Windshield wiper on 1985 Mercury Grand Marquis

Hi,

This question makes me feel like an idiot.but I really need an answer.

On my Dads 1985 Mercury Grand Marquis we needed to change the rubber on the drivers side wiper. The local stores do not sell the rubber replacements any more so I picked up the entire head assembly from Wal-mart.

However we could not find any sort of clip holding the original wiper to the pin. There is what seems to be a small washer with tabs but no apparent way to remove it.

Any suggestions. ?

I removed the rubber from the new unit and replaced it on the car so we are good for a while.

regards

It's been a while... IIRC, the blade assembly just pops off the arm. There might be a tab on top you lift up, or a tab under neath you push on.

Different manufacturer's blades have different ways of attaching to the pin.

Mine have a flat metal "arched loop" that I have to press down.

Some have a thin springy wire that you lift up.

Some all-metal blades have a big looped spring inside that keeps the two halves of the blade in tension, AND acts as a retainer. The spring's hole is the same place as the blade's hole, and releases by pushing a flat-tip screwdriver down into the gap while sliding the blade off the pin.

Thanks to both replies. The thing has a big spring in the middle of it so I will go that route. I just did not want to get it partly off in the middle of winter.
