Any ideas what could be wrong here?

Perhaps there's nothing wrong! My a/c also doesn't work at high rpm's to save all the small engines (55kW) energy for driving. It's a feature, not a bug. I tried: at 3000rpm a/c works perfectly, at 4000 not at all (but 4000 is already beyond 100mph with my car).

cheers

Well, but it used to work under similar conditions before ... So I do not think it's due to the lack of engine power ...

Many engines have a WOT clutch cut-out switch. Yours could need adjustment.
