Skin resistance usually prevents getting a shock at 12 VDC, but..........

Ever kiss a 9 VDC battery? No shock?

Or, consider if you interrupt a current flowing into an inductive load, like a fan blower motor. You can get a few hundreds of volts inductive transients, quite enough to make you jump.

when you mistakenly short the wrench used to disconnect the terminal, to some metallic part the sparks will remind you that it's the positive terminal.

since the negative terminal is common to the engine and body , when you short the wrench , it won't damage anything. it's just safer. it had nothing to do with the miraculous improvmemt. good luck, sammmm
