Was discussing the SMART car this past week with some colleagues in Europe. It had previously been asked on this board whence the 3 cylinder diesel engine for this carlike little conveyance. The story I got, and have not yet verified, is that this engine was designed and built by Mercedes purposely for the Swatch Mercedes car.
