Hey...I have an old Radio Shack PS, 12V@2A.

Doesn't work. looks like one of the IC's is kaput. There is a Motorola

3055 transistor connected to a smaller 3 pin device, and all it has is the Motorola "M" and the number 113 after it.

I can't find it anywhere. It is a very simple PS, and I can't determine if this is a regulator or an SCR.

Any clues...

Drop by Radio Shack and ask them for a schematic, they can get them. And they have a "Parts Express" service that should be able to get you a replacement - they have no excuse not knowing what it really is, even when they have the OEM parts marked with an OEM part code to obfuscate it for industrial spies.

(That way the people who don't want to by in bulk from RS can't just take the RS unit to another Taiwan factory and say "Build us 1,000 of these." Make the other guys work at properly reverse engineering it.)

But watch you don't throw good money after bad - Check everything else first. If there's another bad component in there like a rectifier or the regulator IC, you can put a new transistor in, plug in the AC, and watch the little mushroom cloud of "Magic Smoke" go up again.
