Looks like a TE-31 ('77?). I had a '75.
Those are wrong wheels for it. The wheels are from an SR-5 or a later Corolla.
ANY Toyota from the 70's is rare anywhere, period. ;)

For some reason this Corolla just does not belong with the likes of the cars it's next to.

Hey, a KE-31! Acceleration in one of those things was not what you'd call spirited...
My TE-31 got wrecked in 1985 when a drunk in a Rustang drove on MY side of the cement median straight at me. He turned away at the very last possible moment, but still clipped my front corner and damaged it enough to total the car.
Do you know how frightening it is to come over the crest of the hill and see headlights pointing straight at you?

IIRC, in 1978, the KE 31 got a painted bumper, the TE 31 got chrome.

Did the KE get a chrome bumper for '77?
I started Toyota on the day after Labor Day (U.S.) in 1978 and I didn't study past models so I'm not sure.
I thought Toyota offered both the KE and the TE in '78, with the KE being the base model and the TE being the Deluxe model, but I could be mistaken. It was a while ago.
I know, at least for '78 and '79, the 4 speeds got black rubber on the bumper, and the 5-speeds and the automatic 1600 got chrome.
No, I know how terrifying it is to see a Rustang with the turn signal flashing to take a RIGHT suddenly cut across 2 lanes of traffic while taking a LEFT! In about the worst rain storm I have ever seen in my life.

I'd say we're about even... :(

So then if the bumpers are black, it's a 4-speed? Did they offer the T40 in
78-79?And black /rubber/ or black /paint/? I though the first Corollas with rubber bumpers were the '80s.
I can't answer the T40 question, but in '78 the rubber bumper covering was like a rubber sheet stretched over the bumper. Some of them lasted quite a while, others peeled off after a couple years. Armour-all is a wonderful thing...
The Rustang ruined my car in 1980, and I promptly went to the nearesdt Toyota dealer and ordered a 1980 Corolla SR-5 Coupe. It came with the type of rubber-coated bumpers we are accostumed to now. Armour-all is a wonderful thing...
The car went 220,000 (or more) miles. I used the Toyota Warranty Extension Plan, which meant periodically reaching up under the dash and yanking the speedo cable for the first 12 months. I was driving about 30,000 miles a year back then, so I am guessing the car had about 230,000 when I traded it...
I had two warranty issues, both within the first 3 months of ownership: goop on the passenger's side mirror, which the detailing dep't took off without being asked when I brought the car in for a new clutch cylinder.
Cosmoline is a wonderful thing...
OK, My dad had a 77 1600+T40 with chrome bumpers. I owned a 79 1200+K40 with black painted bumpers. I'm fairly sure in the US the 1600's still got chrome in 79, I don't remeber if the K50's with the 1200 got a black bumper or not anymore.
I got 2 80 SR-5's with the long hatch. First one I left in a bridge on then-US 78 in Mississippi. The second one I drove until 200,000 miles in
1994.Big problem I had with the 2nd SR-5 was the rear end. Had a bearing go out, but the mechanic swore it was a ring gear. Took it to a real mechanic I knew in Illinois from way back and he actually fixed it, but that's a long story.

I had that same car. Bought it new in July of 1980 when the '78 1200 met the Rustang. 224,000 with hardly anything. Still had the original clutch...
'85 Corolla GTS has 259,800 and still has the original clutch...
These were the absolute two best cars I have ever, or probably will ever own.
