Toyota 2007 global sales up 6% to 9.37mn vehicles

TOKYO (Reuters) -- Toyota Motor Corp said today its group sold 9.37 million vehicles worldwide in 2007, up 6 percent from the year earlier.

The final tally was 10,000 units higher than the estimate of 9.36 million it gave late last month due to an overshoot at minivehicle unit Daihatsu Motor Co. Figures at truck maker Hino Motors Ltd were unchanged.

Toyota itself fell short by about 10,000 vehicles in Japan but offset that in China thanks to brisk sales of the Camry sedan and the high-end Lexus cars.

The global sales result almost certainly nudged Toyota past General Motors Corp as the world's biggest automaker. GM has yet to announce its results for 2007.
