I've noticed the compressor in my wife's 97 Camry making slight grinding noises. That's the best I can describe, something like ghr-ghr-ghr, but continuously. It hasn't seemed to diminish the cooling capability as yet, but I can't remember if this is normal with this model since this is only our second summer using it. My 94 Camry doesn't make this noise.
