99 Camry Idle Problem

I have a 4 cylinder 99 Camry. About once a week when I start my car I have to hold down the gas peddle to keep the idle up or it will stall. The temperature is usually around 60 or 70 degrees outside when this happens.

Two weeks ago I had a 30K service done were they did a tune-up, replace the belts, replace the fuel and air filters and clean the fuel injector. And it did it again yesterday morning.

I really appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Clean the sticky throttle may usually help.

stall.

This is a pretty common problem. I have a '97 4 cyl. and this is what I done. Try cleaning the Idle Air Control Valve. To gain access to the valve, with the engine off, remove the air intake hose from the throtlle body(the large black hose on top of the engine), look into the throtlle body-you will see a square openning right in front(bottom), thats the idle air valve passage, spray fuel injector cleaner/solvent(make sure the cleaner/solvent is oxegne sensor safe)in there and let it soak for a few minutes, than start the engine, you may have to repeat that a few times, in extreme cases when the valve can't be cleaned, you may have to replace it. hope this helps JerryR

Take it to your dealer and have them replace the IAC, it'll cost $365, but your car won't have the problem for years to come...or have the dealer do their fuel induction service for about a hundred, that'll take care of it.....but don't be surprised if the problem resurfaces in about a year.
