A/C foul smell, 1998 Camry

Jul 08, 2003 5 Replies

Remember seeing it discussed on this newsgroup before, sorry to ask again.

On my car, when A/C is on, all is normal. But after the A/C is turned off, the vent gives out a musty foul odor, it lasts for quite a while.

Shorting of leaving A/C on all the time, please advice what might be the problem.

TIA.

Your Camry MAY have an air filter for the heating-A/C system (located behind the glovebox). Start there. If you do have this air filter, the opening is a perfect point to introduce an aerosol mold inhibitor.

make sure when the ac is running it is dripping plenty of water on the ground under the car...if not it could be plugged up and need cleaning

Mold in air conditioners does not occur in Camry systems more than other cars. Mold is an equal opportunity bacteria. Regional air borne mold spores and the frequent use of RECIRC has a LOT more to do with the problem.
