When did you change the oil last
I changed the engine oil and it is still the same.
Ransley means well, but doesn't seem to know much about cars. Your problem is some sort of wear in the driveline, probably a CV joint. I suppose it could be the clutch release bearing, but they usually just make noise.
I had a bad universal joint on a car and it clunked and vibrated badly at speed. I assume the CV joint should do the same (I do not get vibrations at all)
Could this be a problem with the engine mounts?

Maybe, how does one inspect an engine mount? or a mechanic should lift the car and do that.
You can move the engine forward and back with your hands (engine OFF and cold) to check for excess movement. Engine mounts that are shot will also shake the engine at idle.
Personally, I would take a long 2X4 and start prying on the engine and check for movement. Of course, I am a hillbilly...
I am going to run out and check the engine as instructed. But it idles very nice. Would bad CV joints give me rough ride at 80mph? I have a very smooth ride with this car up to 80mph (I have not tried to speed faster because of 'traffic tickets') if I accelerate conservatively an change gears and let the clutch off with care.
My experience with CV jonts has been the same as yours, but I've heard that they can just get loose first. It could also be something like worn clutch splines or a bad clutch - your car is just rare enough that people don't post about them much. Now ask about the automatic, and we can help!
I can't wedge a 2 x 4 from the top but I could try it from underneath by lifting engine. The front mount is visible and looks fine.
