Re: How to Destroy the American Dream

Nevada.

I knew someone who moved to Florida, no income tax, but as you say they get you in other areas such as car insurance, utilities ect. One must do their homework before moving, I sure do agree with you on that. I'm too old to move. Besides we generally like it where we are, but the property taxes keep going up every year.

You *do* know there is no Iowa south of Fallon, NV? ;-)

In CA, residential property tax cannot increase more than 2.5% each year ... Proposition 13 regulation. The socialists have been trying everything possible to undermine and circumvent Prop 13 since it's inception back in

1978.

See my other post.

Increase that much, wow!! Bet they take it every year too. How much do you pay in property tax a year, if I may be so bold to ask.

Reply to
Dbu,

First, the 2.5% is from the original selling price, not the current assessed market value.

Second, many states raise property taxes 5, 6, 7 percent a year from the orginal selling price or base the tax on current assessed value.

We've been in this house for a long time and paid it off about 15 years ago so I'm not about to reveal my property tax payment let alone market value which ... has exploded in the past three years.

Property taxes are a magic potion for the individual states. Each have their own recipe.

Understand. Sounds like you have a good life and a place to enjoy it.

The current American dream is to buy a house on easy credit, as the value goes up, refinance (get cash) and spend the money on more American dream stuff, usually imported stuff. Don't look here until after the 3 day weekend is over, I wouldn't want to spoil anyone's holiday.

Dbu, I own 20.25 acres on the other side of my state, its all timbered (Ponderosa Pines) and I pay a whopping $27.28 for an entire year. I do get a break because of the timber. I can supply the community with "wood fiber", its in the state constitution. Otherwise, I pay about $1600 a year for my .29 acre lot/home I live in.
